Today is the end of my second week in my new position as a postdoctoral researcher in the Momeni Lab in the Dept of Biology at Boston College! It's been an exciting transition - in the two months since I filed my dissertation I've packed up my equipment, MMPs, and bacterial strains, driven from Berkeley to Boston, and begun to settle into my new habitat. The group I've joined here in the Momeni Lab takes a systems biology approach to understanding the dynamics of microbial communities. Their current projects include explorations of contact-dependent inhibition, Staphylococcus aureus in the nasal cavity, and the potential to develop microbial bioremediators of aflatoxin. As a whole the department is oriented toward microbiology, developmental biology, and computation biology. Ecologists are thin on the ground, but I'm excited to interact and share perspectives with researchers in more divergent fields.
